Information about Data Center Development in Wisconsin
Understanding Data Center Developments
The State of Wisconsin ratified the Sales and Use Tax Exemption for Qualified Data Centers in 2023. 2023 Wis. Act 19 created a tax credit for the sale of certain property for qualified data centers that are certified by the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC). This incentive quickly spurred significant interest and investment from technology companies considering Wisconsin as a location for AI-related data center development.
Microsoft acquired 240 acres in the City of Kenosha for a data center in early 2025. “We chose Kenosha for its strategic location, productive workforce, and strong infrastructure. This decision builds on Wisconsin’s heritage of business innovation and Microsoft’s history of investment in the state,” Microsoft said. Read more about the project here.
