Rail spur construction project in Pleasant Prairie advances

A multi-million dollar rail spur to serve a Pleasant Prairie company is rapidly moving toward construction.

The rail line will be built to connect Balcan USA Inc., a polyethylene film manufacturer at 7201 108th St., to the Union Pacific Railroad main line. Once complete, the spur will enable Balcan to receive raw materials by rail, reducing truck traffic and supporting long-term manufacturing capacity. village officials said.

The estimated $2.25 million project will be supported by a $400,000 Transportation Economic Assistance grant awarded by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation in May 2022.

The work is being targeted for completion by the end of the year.

The project includes the construction of approximately 1,994 feet of track and related rail switches. Execution of the project requires coordination and agreements among multiple parties, including Union Pacific Railroad, landowner That’s a Wrap (WI) LLC and tenant Balcan USA Inc.
