Future 5: Maggie Campbell, director of strategic initiatives, Building our Future

Maggie Campbell serves as director of strategic initiatives for Building Our Future, a Kenosha County nonprofit aimed at improving local education. Campbell has served in her role since 2024 and oversees the organization’s Kindergarten Readiness and Early Grade Reading programs. She facilitates partnerships among educators, early childhood providers, parents, businesses, health care systems and nonprofit organizations, and co-leads BOF’s Youth Voice Project.

In communion with BOF’s student intern, Campbell leads high school sophomores, juniors and seniors in the organization’s Youth Voice Project through a nine-month leadership and civic engagement initiative, which culminates in a Youth-Led School Board Candidate Forum.

“Watching them step into public leadership – building confidence in public speaking, deepening civic awareness and developing as community leaders – was incredibly rewarding,” she said.

Prior to BOF, Campbell worked as an elementary school teacher but soon realized the classroom setting was not the right fit. She then transitioned into higher education, driven by an interest in the broader impact of education, and eventually landed in the nonprofit sector. Her position at BOF allows her to connect with people and address system challenges, two tenets of her mission to improve education in Kenosha County.

Outside of her role at BOF, Campbell is involved with several community and professional organizations. Campbell assists at Northbridge Church in Antioch, Illinois, where she serves on the hospitality team and hosts during Sunday morning services. She is also a member of the steering committee for Leadership Kenosha.
