Becknell Industrial buys Kenosha County land, ready to start industrial building

Becknell Industrial is set to complete the first speculative building in its Somers Logistics Center later this year, and has enough land near Interstate 94 to build another 1 million square feet after that.

The Indiana developer bought 132 acres at 1735 120th Ave., just east of Interstate 94 in Somers, for that new business park, according to a press release from Becknell Industrial and the Illinois office of brokerage Lee & Associates.

Becknell is starting work soon on a 795,471-square-foot speculative building that will be ready for tenants by the fourth quarter of this year. The company’s business park has enough land for an additional 1 million square feet of development, according to the release.

“We have worked with many municipalities across the country, and Somers has been a great partner,” said Matt Neumann, senior vice president of Becknell Industrial.

Somers, located between Amazon.com’s first Kenosha County fulfillment center and Foxconn Technology Group’s Racine County campus, has seen its share of industrial activity over the past year. Flint Development of Kansas is looking at 1.9 million square feet of industrial space west of I-94. Village officials are in talks with Flint over extending water and sewer service across the interstate for its project.

HSA Commercial Real Estate of Chicago is contemplating a 2022 start for 905,000 square feet on 65 acres east of the interstate in Somers.
