The Salvation Army, the Sharing Center and the Shalom Center received far more than food to help their efforts to feed the community this week.
They received support from 65 employees from Eli Lilly who helped bag and package the food as part of a Global Day of Service. Donations were made in stops at all three sites on Sept. 24.
United Way of Kenosha County and Eli Lilly partnered to help bring 15,000 pounds of food to three Kenosha County food pantries. It was part of a nationwide initiative by Lilly marking the company’s 150th anniversary and promoting access to healthy food for those in need in 15 communities.
“This effort is more than providing food for today – it’s about helping families build healthier futures,” said Selina Gomez-Beloz, CEO of United Way of Kenosha County. “Too many families are forced to make impossible choices between buying groceries, paying rent, covering utilities, or filling prescriptions. By working together with Lilly and our community partners, we’re helping to ensure more people have access to nutritious food while strengthening the health of individuals and families. We’re grateful for Lilly’s support of United Way Worldwide, which is supporting this event, and the long-term impact it will have in our community.”
