Task force workshops housing options in Kenosha County

The Kenosha County Housing Task Force recently took part in a special workshop for local elected officials and other interested partners on residential planning and zoning.

The event was part of ongoing efforts to promote increased housing options for all residents across the county.

Held at the Somers Village/Town Hall, the Oct. 29 workshop featured a board game that simulated the challenges of residential zoning to meet municipalities’ needs.

Extension Kenosha County Community Development Educator Savannah Meyers led the event while Becky Roberts of the Center for Land Use Education at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point facilitated the board game exercise and a subsequent discussion.

Local participants included representatives of various municipal governments, including elected officials, plan commission members and staff.

Established by the Kenosha Area Business Alliance and Kenosha County in late 2024, the Housing Task Force includes developers, municipal and nonprofit leaders, financing experts, real estate agents, large employers, and other community members interested in encouraging more available housing throughout the county.
